As promised, Kris and I have recorded a second podcast on EQC claims.  To listen go to this click here:

EQC claims.

We cover the following questions in this podcast:

- What should I do if I discover more damage after the EQC assessor has come?
- In what circumstances should I get my own engineer’s report on my property?
- What should I do if I receive a payout from EQC, but the repair cost is more than what they gave me?
- What can I do if I’m unhappy with EQC’s assessment of my property, or unhappy with how my insurer is dealing with my claim?

We hope to have the transcript on the this page in the next couple of days and hope you enjoy listening to our podcast on EQC claims.

Thanks for the podcast, very helpful.

It would be good to cover what happens after EQC decide that repair costs exceed the cap ($100k+GST) and the file gets passed across to private insurance. I’d like to know, how they decide whether to repair, rebuild or Cash settlement and what and how far you(as the individual) can negotiate. How much homework should the individual be doing in parallel to the work private insurance is already doing? Can you really trust them to give you honest answers? should we be getting our own reports and technical advice even if we think we are happy with insurance solution?
